People Electric · DC Surge Protective Device
Product overview
People Electric RDU8DC surge protective devices limit transient overvoltage on DC power lines by diverting surge current to earth. Choose the discharge-current version and pole arrangement to suit the DC system and earthing design. Nominal discharge current and maximum discharge current are different ratings.
Technical selection summary
| Manufacturer / series | Original People Electric RDU8DC |
|---|---|
| B20 version | RDU8DC-B20: nominal discharge current In 10kA; maximum discharge current Imax 20kA |

| Maximum continuous operating voltage (Uc) | DC1000V, for the ratings covered on this page |
| Pole configurations | 2P or 3P; follow the manufacturer installation diagrams |
| Response time | ≤25ns |
| Operating / storage temperature | -40 to +70°C |
| Altitude | ≤2,000m |
| Protection / pollution degree | IP20; pollution degree 2 |
| Mounting | Vertical within ±5°, or horizontal, as stated in the source |
| Dimensions | 54 × 68 × 90mm shown for the illustrated 3P assembly; see original drawing and exact configuration |
B20 and B40 identify maximum discharge current, not a continuous load-current rating. This listing uses the DC1000V rating explicitly tabulated by the manufacturer. Other voltage examples in the series selection diagram are not offered as a freely interchangeable rating. Confirm earthing arrangement, backup protection and the exact Uc for the actual DC system.
Typical applications
- Transient overvoltage protection of DC distribution and power-protection circuits.
- DC installations requiring coordinated surge protection and suitable earth connections.
